More scandals of secrecy with gerrymandering starring Robin Vos and other GOP Fitzwalkerstan Cultists

Robin Vos

Robin Vos, a charter member of the Fitzwalkerstan Cult that rubber-stamped every ALEC-written legislation paid for by the Koch Brothers, has been an obedient servant to his scandal-plagued leader being hunted down by the FBI, Scott Walker. In yet another example of political power-grabbing and illegal actions to placate the subjugation of the Eagle Scout Swindler, Vos coordinated the signing of clandestine agreements by fellow Republican Fitzwalkerstan Cultists in their gerrymandering monkeyshines secretly at Walker’s pet law firm, Michael Best and Friedrich. Robin Vos breaches Wisconsin’s open meetings law and the prohibition of legislative secrecy contained in Article IV, Section 10 of the Wisconsin Constitution. His talking points memo is the smoking gun.

State Rep. Robin Vos, the Republican co-chairman of the powerful legislative Joint Finance Committee, appears to have coordinated an effort to have legislators intentionally violate open meetings and public notice requirements with regard to the redistricting process.

Documents filed in association with a lawsuit brought by the group Voces de la Frontera — which challenges the maps developed in secret by Vos and his Republican colleagues — suggest that Vos was party to an effort to deliberately deceive fellow legislators, the media and, most significantly, the voters of Wisconsin.

The documents, which were revealed in the discovery process relating to the lawsuit, now form the basis for a complaint filed with the Dane County district attorney alleging serious violations of the Wisconsin Constitution and open meetings statutes. They reveal that 58 Assembly Republicans and 17 Republican state senators signed a secrecy agreement that essentially required them to withhold information from the public about what was supposed to be an open and transparent process.

Vos and other Republicans hired the law firms Michael Best and Friedrich and the Troupis Law Office and charging $400,000 in taxpayer money to pay for gerrymandering maps and shoving through the job-sucking Budget Repair Bill. That was months ago. What is yet another erupting story is that there are Republican legislative aides still working at Michael Best and Friedrich.

Two taxpayer-paid legislative aides who were responsible for drawing new election maps continue to work out of a law firm instead of the Capitol, even though lawmakers approved the maps six months ago.

Tad Ottman and Adam Foltz were responsible for drawing new district lines last year, and they did that work out of the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich, across the street from the Capitol. Those maps were approved in August, but they continue to work from there.

Foltz makes $50,000 a year and works from the law office most of the time. Ottman makes $79,236 a year; he declined to say how often he works at the law office. Taxpayers are paying their wages no matter which office they work from.

Meanwhile Thursday, Sen. Neal Kedzie (R-Elkhorn) took heat because his office twice told a constituent this week Kedzie had not signed a confidentiality agreement regarding the new election maps. In fact, he had.

Democrats blasted Republicans for having workers stationed at the law office, particularly so long after the maps they were working on were approved. They questioned whether taxpayer money had been properly used, saying state workers should be based in state offices and the work they produce should be publicly available.

“You almost get the image of a shadowy government,” said Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha).

It’s a shadowy government indeed. Between the FBI sniffing out Walker’s corrupt past before he came to Madison and the antics that have happened since he was sworn in last January, it’s going to be a very busy year.
